Bulgaria started harvesting last weekend. On first sight quality seems to be good and we can expect similar quality as last year.
Texas, USA, has started harvesting and with good results as there were no issues detected on insect damage or diseases. As mentioned in previous mailing, North and South Dakota had to deal with drought and first indications show, that this resulted in smaller seeds.
Xinjiang and Gansu, China, are harvested but quality is lacking, main issues are small sizes and high moisture content. Moreover the quantity cannot meet the domestic demand as China has a large consumption as well. Inner Mongolia, China, which is the biggest origin, had to postpone the harvest due to the bad weather conditions and is to be expected to resume by the end of September. Quality has yet to be determined, but first indications show that insect damage has affected the crop.
Price levels are assumed to increase over the next weeks, when final results of the crop are known.
